A period detached house set over three floors, with lovely views across the estuary to the Irish Sea, in the pretty village of Ravenglass on the west coast of Cumbria, once a Roman port and favourite smugglers' haunt!

Herbert House has been fully restored to offer spacious and comfortable accommodation, ideal for family or friends to enjoy this beautiful corner of the Lake District. Boasting five bedrooms, three with lovely views of the estuary, a lovely sitting room with bay window and a second reception room, there is space for everyone. Herbert House has the added advantage of being next door to The Pennington Hotel, which serves fine cuisine and real ales in beautiful surroundings.

Attractions from the doorstep include the beach, some fifty yards away, a nature and conservation area, the delightful and the magnificent Muncaster Castle, with its award winning attractions. Add to this the unrivaled walking and climbing available to suit all skill levels, and you have all the ingredients for a memorable holiday, whatever the time of year!

This property, as all of our holiday houses, can be booked for a short 3 day break or by whole weeks at a time giving you the flexibility and choice to being your relaxing break in the Lake District.

In the area

Eskdale 4 miles; Wasdale Head 6 miles; Muncaster Castle 1 mile Ravenglass is a small village on the west coast of Cumbria, which made its living from fishing, and in the 18th Century the harbour was also used for smuggling tobacco and other contraband from the Isle of Man.

Just minutes from Ravenglass and easily accessible by a new cycle track is Muncaster Castle, with magnificent gardens and views up to Scafell Pike, and home of the World Owl Trust. This great location boasts a skyline dominated by towering peaks including Scafell - England's highest peak, whilst the nearby stunning valleys of Eskdale, Wasdale and Dunnerdale provide breathtaking scenery to be enjoyed throughout the year. With beautiful Wastwater - the deepest lake in the country, and St Olaf's - one of the smallest churches in England amongst the many landmarks in this beautiful area, this stunning location will have visitors returning time and time again.
